HOPELESS HEROIC join the ranks for
(Posted 27th November 2009)
By the time Gavin Bain met guitarist and fellow songwriter Grant Magnus in January 2007, they had both led such crazy lives that creativity and content was never going to be in short supply. With confidence and talent in abundance they aimed to destroy mediocrity and flood eardrums with content interesting enough to bring the listener back time and time again.
When Gavin brought in, 22 years classically trained violinist, Tony Sabberton, the band had found its sound, confirming Gavin and Grants suspicion that mixing influences of Rage Against The Machine, Muse, Biffy Clyro, Billy Talent & Metallica with Mozart, Bach and John Williams, you would have something original and epic. Mixing Metal and Hip Hop with Classical and Punk meant they could be edgy with a sound that was as monstrous as it was beautiful. At times schizophrenic, they wanted to make songs that were like musical paintings with many layers that you scratch away at to figure out who it reminds you off, everyone and no-one at once. That’s the making of a classic band they thought.
After loosing original drummer Andy Patrick to work commitments, Hip Hop and Punk Drummer Kyle Howe, a young mix martial arts expert, joined the band not long after Tony and brought the perfect solid hip hop groove and powerful drumming that the boys would require to pull off such a sound. Then there’s Rob Bayley, one of Gavin’s oldest friends, who stepped up to take the place of Gordon Donald. When Rob joined the band he presented HH with the final piece of the puzzle and began a tight partnership with Kyle as the backbone and rhythm section.
Together HH’s frenetic live performances have been visually reminiscent of At The Drive In with the showmanship of Story Of The Year, bringing back the wow factor and value for money to the live music scene.
The band have worked hard and have already written their first album. On top of which their Debut EP consists of 5 songs that are as conceptually creative and originally dynamic as they are catchy and anthemic. Not to mention the live response to the EP and early album work so far, with sing a long’s and scenes of hysteria, convincing the band of the materials potential.
Hopeless Heroic’s music is the result of 5 guys searching hope among destruction and deals with issues such as identity, confidence, lies, dreams, determination, life, death, addiction and suicide. “We vow excellence , we will consistently evolve and avoid being typecast while embracing new sounds and mixing genre’s but we guarantee the entertainment, quality and “Wow Factor” will never escape our sound“.
If their debut EP is anything to go by, and with this much talent, bursting at the seams with promise, then the possibilities are limitless.
